National News: In a significant political move, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to host a grand public meeting and power-packed show of strength in Ludhiana today. The event comes in the wake of the party’s emphatic victory in the Ludhiana West by-election—a win that has bolstered AAP's political narrative in Punjab.
The event will take place at Kings Villa Resort on Ferozepur Road this evening and will witness the presence of AAP's top leadership, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and former Delhi Deputy CM and education reformist Manish Sisodia.
The highlight of the event will be the first public appearance of newly elected MLA and Minister for Industries, Sanjeev Arora. Known for his entrepreneurial background, Arora will formally thank the electorate of Ludhiana West for placing their trust in AAP. His elevation to the ministerial post is being seen as a fulfillment of Kejriwal’s pre-election promise to the local voters.
The Ludhiana West seat had fallen vacant following the untimely demise of AAP legislator Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. AAP fielded Sanjeev Arora, who went on to defeat former Congress Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of 10,637 votes in a high-voltage electoral battle. The by-election was not just another contest but had become a symbolic turf war between Punjab’s top three players—AAP, Congress, and BJP.
This decisive win sent out a strong message about AAP’s growing acceptance and electoral strategy in Punjab, especially in urban constituencies like Ludhiana.
During the campaign trail, Arvind Kejriwal had publicly committed that if Sanjeev Arora won the election, he would be made a cabinet minister. True to his word, Arora was swiftly inducted as the Industry Minister in the Punjab cabinet—a move that not only rewarded local trust but also demonstrated AAP’s consistency in honoring voter expectations.
While today's event may appear as a thanksgiving gathering, political observers see it as part of AAP’s long-term game plan for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The leadership aims to capitalize on recent victories and consolidate its hold, particularly in urban and semi-urban pockets where its model of governance is resonating with the electorate.
Despite facing legal challenges, Manish Sisodia’s inclusion in the event carries symbolic weight. Regarded as one of the architects of AAP's education and governance model, his presence is expected to galvanize party workers and send a message of unity and resilience.
